What is a measure?

Last Updated: Oct 16, 2018 04:23PM PDT
A measure is a collection of observations that differ only in (one or more of) their location, time frame, or dimension but are otherwise identical. It provides context for the numbers in your dataset. Here are some examples of measures:
  • Counts (e.g. number of births).
  • Rates (e.g. crude rate of cancer per 100,000 population).
  • Percentages (e.g. percentage of survey respondents who smoked in the last week).
