How do I build a chart from my data in the chart builder?

Last Updated: Jun 04, 2018 07:05AM PDT
  1. Open the chart builder.
  2. Select a dataset you uploaded to your team account from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the COLUMN tab, select the column heading you want to use to start building your chart from the dropdown menu.
  4. Select the next column heading you want to use to build your chart from the dropdown menu that automatically appears.
  5. If desired, continue to add column headings to build your chart, up to a maximum of 5 columns.
  6. If your columns contain numeric data, choose:
    1. AVG to average the values, as applicable based on your data.
    2. TOTAL to total the values, as applicable based on your data.
    3. CUSTOM to express the values, as applicable based on your data, as:
      1. Count.
      2. Percent.
      3. Per 1,000.
      4. Per 100,000.
      5. Per million.

Quick tips:
  • You can choose a maximum of five column heading dropdowns.
  • Adding additional columns allows you to continue to splice your data by dimensions (age, race, etc.) or to look at multiple types of measure data on the same chart (numbers, percentages, etc.).
  • If a column choice is greyed out, you have either:
    • Reached the maximum column heading dropdowns (5 columns), or
    • The column choice conflicts with a choice you have selected.

To save your chart:
  1. In a dashboard, click PIN.
  2. In a story, click ADD TO STORY.
